Overview of Davey's Borehole submersible pump

Access to consistent groundwater frequently makes the difference between resilience and vulnerability. The need for a borehole pump is consistent and demanding, whether for domestic supply, farm irrigation, or livestock water. A bore can reveal water supplies hidden deep inside the soil and rock, but the pump you select decides whether that supply will be reliable for years.

Davey’s submersible borehole pump line is designed specifically for this purpose. Each pump in this series is built for home water supply, irrigation, turf watering, stock watering, dewatering, and fountains, and it embodies the values of efficiency, strength, and reliability. The stainless-steel structure is corrosion-resistant, and the independently floating centrifugal impellers adjust automatically to pumping conditions, reducing wear and the risk of cavitation.

Behind the technical intricacy lies a product designed to meet human needs, such as water for a home, a farm, or a community. We provide solutions for every groundwater installation, with flow rates ranging from 2  to 12, heads of up to 235 metres, and motor sizes ranging from 0.37 kW (0.5 hp) to 7.5 kW (10 hp).

Wide sump pump models for every installation

Each installation is unique. A small household well in a suburban house has a different layout from a deep groundwater well for irrigation. That is why the Davey DPS series has seven main models, each with various flow, head, and motor power options.

  1. DPS2 and DPS3: Compact, low-flow variants suitable for small home systems, household tank filling, and fountains.
  2. DPS4 and DPS6: Medium-duty pumps that combine high pressure with realistic irrigation and turf watering efficiency.
  3. DPS8, DPS10, DPS12: Heavy-duty pumps designed for agriculture, mining, or larger-scale installations that require huge volumes, prolonged pressure, and constant dependability.

To make comparison easier, below are the typical continuous duty ranges:

Pump model identification for easy selection and maintenance

Selecting the proper borehole pump might be difficult, but Davey makes the process easier with a simple model code system. Understanding this simplifies installation design, reordering, and maintenance.

Davey Borehole Submersible Water Pump Product Identification
  1. “K” represents a complete setup that includes the pump, motor, control box (if necessary), and splice kit.
  2. “DPS” notes the pump type, while two digits after that signify the rated flow at BEP in .
  3. After the dash separator, the two digits represent the number of impeller stages that produce pressure.
  4. After the second dash, the following three digits specify motor output power in kilowatts.
  5. “R” identifies a rewindable motor design.
  6. The last two digits indicate the number of wires (two or three) and the electrical phase (single or three-phase).

Take KDPS2-07-037R21 as an example. The “K” indicates it is delivered as a complete pump kit. The “DPS2” designation means that it belongs to the DPS series, with a rated flow of 2  at BEP. The “07” denotes seven impeller stages, whereas “037” denotes a 0.37 kW (0.5 hp) motor. The “R” represents a rewindable motor, followed by “2” indicating a 2-wire layout, and lastly “1” verifying that it is a single-phase motor.

This organised method removes uncertainty, making it easier to match pumps to installations, electrical systems, or replacement needs.

Accessories

Check valve

Every Davey submersible borehole pump features an integrated stainless steel check valve with NBR sealing for additional durability. This critical component keeps water from flowing back into the borehole when the pump is turned off, saving the motor and impellers from reverse pressure and hydraulic shock.

A dependable check valve is crucial for maintaining system integrity and preventing downtime in deep wells with large water columns. Controlling backflow also prevents wasteful cycling, decreasing wear on starters, float switches, and control panels. The result is smoother and more stable pumping performance.

Control boxes and panels

Control boxes and panels provide intelligence for pump operation. Davey’s IP56-rated enclosures are available in single- and three-phase versions, featuring Manual-Off-Auto operation for versatility in various applications. Each box has run lights, surge arrestors, and connections for pressure switches, float switches, and other monitoring devices.

Larger three-phase systems contain protection devices to prevent phase imbalance, loss, or inappropriate sequencing. This improves the economy and increases motor life by eliminating dry runs and overloading. Installers may use these panels to verify that their pumps operate safely, consistently, and without stress.

Cable splice kits with hermetic seals on underground connections

A submersible borehole pump requires electrical integrity, and Davey’s heatshrink cable splice kits provide solid, watertight connections underground. These kits establish hermetic seals that prevent water from entering, thereby saving wires from short-circuiting or early failure in moist soil and groundwater environments. The splice kits are simple to install and are available for both two-wire and three-wire motors, ensuring compatibility across the pump line.

They reduce voltage loss and provide reliable motor performance by maintaining a strong electrical connection. For installation and service professionals, they ensure that electrical connections inside the borehole remain safe, resilient, and long-lasting.

Borehole caps with galvanised protection and safety features.

Borehole caps are crucial for maintaining the integrity and safety of a groundwater system. Davey’s galvanised borehole caps are designed to fit firmly onto casing pipes, preventing dirt, debris, or surface water from entering the bore. They also safeguard electrical and piping connections against physical damage during installation or maintenance.

Galvanised steel is built to last and resists corrosion, providing dependable sealing even in challenging outdoor situations. Borehole caps protect the well entrance, preserving water quality, extending system life, and reducing the likelihood of costly repairs, making them a fundamental yet vital component of borehole construction.

Motor protection panels with advanced safety monitoring

Davey’s Fanox motor protection control panels are built for demanding applications and feature sophisticated current, voltage, and recovery cycle monitoring. These panels shield motors from overload, underload, and dry-running conditions, which are common causes of premature failure. Three-phase models further detect phase loss, imbalance, or improper rotation to ensure the motor functions safely.

Automatic resets, thermal memory, and well-filling timers improve operational efficiency while decreasing downtime. These control panels enhance the lifespan of pumps and motors, providing end customers with peace of mind that groundwater will always be available.

Floating centrifugal impellers with optimised efficiency

Each DPS pump has independently floating centrifugal impellers constructed of robust techno-polymer (polycarbonate). Unlike fixed impellers, they automatically adjust to changes in pumping conditions, reducing friction, wear, and the risk of cavitation. This self-aligning function promotes smooth operation and a longer service life, particularly in sandy boreholes where abrasive particles can cause premature failure.

The impellers are also energy-efficient, needing less electricity to start and run, resulting in lower operating expenses over time. These impellers are ideal for various applications, including residential wells and large-scale irrigation systems, as they maintain a consistent pressure and water supply.

Certified quality that ensures safety and performance

Davey 4″ submersible borehole pumps are built and tested to meet international standards. These approvals reassure consultants, installers, and end-users that the pumps are safe, robust, and completely compliant with industry standards.

European Conformity, CE: Confirms adherence to key European Union rules on health, safety, and environmental protection. The pumps are tested under harmonised standards, such as EN 9906, EN 809 and EN 12162 for rotating electrical devices, to verify their safety, efficiency, and consistent performance.

  • EN 9906 Sub-Clause: This centrifugal pump is awarded with hydraulic performance tests of rotodynamic acceptance by consumers.
  • EN 809 Sub-Clause: All electropumps of any kind, including sump pumps like Davey’s Borehole, that complies with the European’s mandatory technical safety requirement towards construction, assembling, erecting, operating, as well as servicing is accreditated with the EN 809 recognition.
  • EN 12162 Sub-Clause: In cases where liquid pumps meets the projected safety and performance of hydrostatic examination, submersible pumps like the Borehole would be awarded the EN 12162 achievement.

AS/NZS 60335: Meet Australia and New Zealand standards for the safety of home and similar electrical appliances. This ensures safe installation and operation in both residential and business settings.

These certifications demonstrate Davey’s commitment to worldwide safety and dependability.

Rewindable motor with reliable power for demanding installations

The DM Rewindable motor is at the core of every Davey submersible borehole pump and is intended to provide dependable power even in harsh groundwater conditions. It is corrosion- and wear-resistant, made of 304 stainless steel, and features a hard-face mechanical seal (silicon carbide/ceramic). Food-grade oil lubricates and cools the rotor and bearings, while sand slinger protection keeps abrasive particles from entering the motor chamber. The rewindable construction makes the service easier, making it a worthwhile long-term investment for installers.

These motors are available in single and three-phase configurations, providing constant operation for home and agricultural applications.
