Overview of Davey's PowerMaster Swimming Pool Pump
The PowerMaster range by Davey are high-performance single-speed pool pumps designed for residential and light commercial pool applications. They suit in-ground and above-ground pools, lap pools, concrete and tile pools, fiberglass pools, swim-jet installations, and in-floor cleaning systems, with models capable of servicing pool up to 170,000 liters. The design emphasizes quiet operation, energy-efficient hydraulics, corrosion and UV resistance, easy maintenance, and long service life in both fresh and salt water. A 3-year warranty is provided.
Swimming Pool Pump Variations
The lido and/or natatorium pump family is identified by five model codes:
Product Code
PM200
PM250
PM350
PM450
PM4503
These codes distinguish motor size, electrical configuration, and hydraulic capacity.
Swimming Pool Pump Variations
PM is the product family designation PowerMaster.
450 is the model size within the PowerMaster family and denotes the larger, higher-performance member of the single-speed range.
The “3” appended to a model (for example PM4503) indicates a three-phase motor variant of that model. It is not a separate family; it is the same 450 hydraulic package fitted with a three-phase electrical motor.
Attachment
See-Through Strainer Lid
The strainer lid is positioned atop the pump’s strainer basket, which collects debris such as leaves, hair, and dirt.
This lid is typically transparent or “clear,” and is usually constructed from sturdy polycarbonate plastic. Because the lid is clear, it allows for easier visibility of the basket’s fullness without needing to open the pump.
This helps to prevent debris from obstructing water flow or harming the pump. Maintenance can be performed more precisely by inspecting whether the basket is full or not.
Extra Large Strainer Basket
There is an extra-large strainer basket located under the lid which picks up the leaves, hair, and other debris before water is sent to the impeller.
It has a generous capacity that extends the cleaning intervals, and prevents blockage that decreases the efficiency of the pumps or leads to cavitation.
The basket can be taken out to be rinsed under water and they must also be checked frequently when the leaf fall is heavy or when cleaning agents are used in the pools and shed debris.
This assists in sustaining optimum hydraulic functioning.
Built-In Check Valve
An inbuilt check valve also prevents the revers flow within the pump internals when the motor is switched off to avoid back drainage of water hammer or contamination. This is used to keep the prime water and minimizes chances of the pump staying dry during startup.
In installations having long suction lines or high filters the check valve is more reliable, but should be inspected occasionally to see that it is not worn or blocked so that it will seat well.
Drain Plug
A dedicated drain plug allows simple and controlled drainage of the pump housing for winterizing, maintenance, or repair. Using the drain plug makes it wet end, reducing the risk of freeze damage in cold climates and simplifying internal inspections.
Always replace the plug and torque to the manufacturer’s guidance after servicing to maintain the pump’s sealed integrity.
3 Meter Power Lead With 10 Amp Australian Plug
Single-phase models are supplied with a 3 m power lead terminated with a 10 An Australian three-pin plug for straightforward connection to standard domestic outlets. This fitted lead simplifies installation for residential sites and avoids the need for immediate hard-wiring.
For permanent installations, or where local regulations require fixed wiring, the lead may be removed and the pump hard-wired by a qualified electrician in accordance with local wiring rules.
Equipotential Bonding Point
An equipotential bonding point is provided to meet AS/NZ 3000 wiring standards and to ensure the pump can be properly bonded into the pool electrical safety system. Bonding reduces touch voltage risk and equalizes electrical potential between conductive parts around the pool. During installation, connect the bonding conductor to this point using the correct conductor size and secure termination to maintain compliance and safety.
Certification
ISO 9001 Quality Management: ensures consistent production quality and product reliability. This certificate ensures that all Davey products are made according to the same standards all through the supply chain.
Environmental Management, ISO 14001: Davey’s dedication to environmentally conscious design and production methods is demonstrated by the fact that manufacturing procedures adhere to ISO 14001 environmental management standards.
AS/NZS 3000:2018: is the current Australian/New Zealand Wiring Rules standard, setting out mandatory requirements for the design, construction, and verification of electrical installations. It is the benchmark for electrical safety across residential, commercial, and industrial projects.
TEFC Motor
The motor is an extra heavy duty, totally enclosed fan cooled (TEFC) design that recirculates clean air internally to protect bearings and extend life.
Features include a built-in thermal overload, a large front fan for cool running, and a stainless-steel motor shaft to resist corrosion. Both single-phase and three-phase options are available across the model range, with the PM4503 being the three-phase variant for heavier duty on commercial applications.
Suction Inlet
Suction and delivery accept 40 mm PVC on the internal diameter and 50 mm fittings on the external diameter, depending on model.
The dimensions table lists inlet/outlet entries as 40/50 or 50 for specific models, enabling straightforward connection to standard pool plumbing.
Impellers & Diffusers
The pumps use a modern hydraulic design intended for energy efficiency and quiet operation.
For information about impeller geometry, debris handling capability or spare-parts identification, consult technical support or the parts manual.
Backplate & Mechanical Seal
A high-performance silicon carbide mechanical seal is fitted to provide long life in both salt and fresh water.
The pump wet end and external components are described as corrosion resistant and UV-stable.
