The StarFlo swimming pool pump by Davey is an electric water pump that is designed on purpose as a pool pump and booster pump (residential swimming pool systems). The identification series begins with:
DSF: This represents the StarFlo series of Davey.
420: The numerical figure that indicates the swimming pool pump’s flow rate at nominal output.

40mm / 50mm Barrel Union (BSP Fitting)
A 40mm or 50mm barrel union refers to a PVC fitting. This union is commonly used in pools or irrigation systems, designed to connect pipes of those sizes. In common situation, it features a dual-size tail (40/50mm) to fit either pipe diameter for flexibility. This allows easy maintenance by disconnecting the pump or filter.
These unions often use British Standard Pipe (BSP) threads and come in variants for different type of pipes.
See-Through Strainer Lid
The strainer lid sits on top of the pump’s strainer basket, where the basket catches debris like leaves, hair, and dirt. The lid is transparent or “see-through,” usually made from durable polycarbonate plastic.
Since the lid is see-through, this makes seeing how full the basket is much easier without opening the pump. This prevents debris from blocking water flow or damaging the pump. Precise maintenance can be made by checking the basket whether its full or not.

High-Performance Motor
The StarFlo incorporates the multi-speed pump principle as its main design, which is an electric motor with one speed, and it doesn’t produce the pump variants because this principle is capable of lasting operation to provide the pool with the necessary circulation.
The centrifugal impeller is moved by the motor via a closed shaft system allowing a high amount of water to be sucked in by the motor and then pumped out back through the plumbing system. Such an arrangement allows the pump to be used continuously in a dedicated pump room whether manually operated or by an external timer.
Self-resetting Thermal Overload Protection: A self-resetting thermal overload protection device automatically restores power to an electrical circuit, like a motor.
